Hedgewise

Hedgerows have a deep and ancient history in the United Kingdom, where the agri-art of hedge laying is experiencing a renaissance due to it’s ecological and agricultural benefits. A hedgerow is an ecosystem all unto itself- providing a vital biodiverse habitat for animals and plants, including many medicinal plants. This informal discussion will include a brief history of the hedgerow, an overview of the ecological and agricultural benefits that hedgerows can provide, some basics of hedge laying, information on some of the medicinal and food source plants that are found in the hedgerow (with a focus on those that we also have here in the United States), and some interesting folklore associated with the hedgerow. An information sheet will also be passed out listing resources for finding out more about hedgerows and the agri-art of hedge laying.

Learning to read our Nature, the elements within is a way of honoring indigenous vision as well as gaining self sufficiency to work with family and community healing.
