Bridging the Gap Between Consumers and Farmers
Rachel PalmaThe back-to-the-land movement has continued to gain much ground in recent years, and with it the desire to purchase food directly from a farmer. But many consumers are held back by what seems to be a lack of understanding for how buying from a farmer actually works. Farmers often seem to lack communication and marketing skills (though many simply don’t have the time for it!), and consumers are accustomed to 24-hour grocery stores and food shipped directly to their doorstep through the click of a button. What can we do, as consumers and farmers, to bridge this gap? Rachel Palma of Restoration Acres Farm will lead a discussion on how we can work together as consumers and farmers to make local food more accessible and convenient.
BIO:
Rachel Palma owns and operates Restoration Acres Farm along with her husband Matt. She is mom to three and is passionate about raising and schooling her children on the farm. Rachel runs the marketing side of the business mostly, but still enjoys working in the field alongside Matt as much as she can. She is a first generation farmer and business owner and has learned so much about the ins and outs of farming as well as marketing and running a business. Farming full-time and raising three young children isn’t easy, but she enjoys the challenge and looks forward to continuing her journey of learning as her children and business grow.
